honors and adult ballet

  • Honors classes are held on Saturdays as an additional technique class for students who wish to progress faster.
  • Students are recommended for Honors by their teachers.

adults only

  • Separate Core Work class for adults.
  • Separate Modern class for adults.
  • Adults may take Honors classes if the classes are not too full.
  • Adult Ballet classes are offered as our schedule permits.

Contemporary

  • New in 2013 are our contemporary classes.
  • Offered to our more advanced dancers.
  • Elements of ballet, modern and jazz are brought together in a 'contemporary' approach.

Core Work

  • A combination of yoga and Pilates that focuses on building core strength. 
  • We offer this to our more advanced dancers and to adults.

Ages 7 to Adult Classes

We start with ballet, which is the foundation for everything, and then add jazz, modern, contemporary and core work to round out our students. Note that students must be taking ballet in order to take any of our additional offerings. (Please see our "Forms, Info, Etc." page for dress codes for various classes.)

Ballet Classes

Beginner Ballet

Real beginner ballet classes start in second grade, but we still don't expect our dancers to stand still for long!  

  • One hour, once a week
  • Combination of RAD, Ceccetti, and Vagonova methods of ballet.
  • American Academy of Ballet performance awards levels are learned.
  • Students to progress at their own pace. 
  • Challenging and fun!
  • Four levels for ages 7 to 10, plus a separate class for older beginners.   

 

advanced ballet

  • Classes are by audition only.
  • Auditions are held in June, although additional students may be moved up in the fall if they seem ready.
  • Twice a week classes for one and 1/2 hour.
  • Students are required to take Jazz and Honors classes in addition to their two ballet classes.

Modern

  • Offered at the Intermediate Ballet level and up. 
  • A variety of modern approaches introduce our students to all the elements of modern dance. 
  • Students who want to dance while in college are strongly encouraged to take modern classes.

Other Classes

Jazz

Students may start jazz classes as soon as they start beginner ballet, or may wait until they are older. 

  • Grouped in jazz with students of the same ballet level and jazz experience. 
  • One hour for once a week. 
  • Include a variety of jazz styles from classical jazz, to Broadway to Luigi to Hip Hop.
  • Jazz enhances flexibility, quality of movement and performance and is essential for performing in school plays, etc. 
  • Dancers in our Advanced Ballet levels are required to add a jazz class.

 

Intermediate ballet

  • Students must pass a physical readiness test to progress to these levels.
  • Ages 10 and up.
  • Twice a week classes; Intermediate 1 class is one and 1/4 hour, all other levels are one and 1/2 hour.
  • Pointe work is included, starting very slowly in the younger levels.
