Ballet and Jazz classes:

Ballet Classes

All classes are run on a school year basis.  First Steps and Pre-Ballet for younger children are 45 minutes, once a week.  Classes become one hour, once a week, as students progress to the beginner ballet levels, and increase to one and one half hour classes twice a week as students progress to intermediate and advanced levels and pointe work.

All classes are taught by experienced and caring professionals.  Class sizes are limited.  Care is taken at all levels to ensure age appropriate exercises and expectations, and to instill a foundation of good training - while having fun!

First Steps (ages 3 and 4) and Pre-Ballet (ages 5 and 6)
Both of these classes are two year programs.  Creativity is incorporated onto the ballet class format of warm-up, stretching, center and reverence to include lots of creative movement, imagination (pretend costumes, pretend makeup, etc.), pantomime, familiar songs and music, and learning about story ballets.  They are a fun and active introduction to the world of dance.  Classes challenge the children and let them feel like real ballerinas, while remembering their age and readiness.  Additional skills are introduced as children are ready for them; students progress at their own pace.  New things are introduced every week.  THe year culminates in a recital; First Steps and Pre-Ballet classes perform their own story ballet on separate performances from the older children.  This makes for and enjoyable experience for dancers and parents!

Beginner through Advanced Ballet
More serious ballet begins in second grade, but we still have fun!  A full barre and center work are taught with emphasis on a positive experience and age appropriate exercises.  After 3 or 4 years of ballet, girls must pass a physical readiness test for pointe and are required to take twice a week classes.  After at least one year of pointe, additional "honors" classes may be taken.  We feel that it is important for students to be well-rounded and do not require more classes to progress.  Our students have proven themselves both in dance and academics and sports!

We do also offer a program for older beginner students to start in their own class, and in two or three years catch up to their age group.

Adult Classes
We will be offering adult intermediate/advanced classes in 6-week sessions throughout the school year.  Please call us for the current offering..

Jazz Classes

Starting in second grade, we offer jazz as an expansion of our students dance experience.  The fundamentals of ballet are essential, therefore students must be currently taking ballet, with jazz as an additional class.  Jazz classes are one hour long, once a week.  Students are grouped by age and ability as determined by the instructor.  Since all are taking ballet, most often students are placed according to ballet level.

Beginning levels introduce the student to the fun of jazz dancing.  Basic beginning jazz stretch and jazz moves are set to classic jazz and to popular music.  Classes include a variety of jazz steps, from Hip-Hop to Broadway, and special time for children's own creative moves.

More complex steps and combinations are introduced at the higher levels, with emphasis on flexibility and performance.

Modern Classes

Modern classes are currently offered to out Intermediate 3 ballet level and above on Monday evenings.  We hope to expand this program in the future.
