The Dance for Joy Youth Ballet Company was founded in 2002 to provide additional performing experiences for our students. The original company of 14 dancers grew to 37 dancers last year! Performances have included nursing homes, pre-schools and elementary schools, the Youth Dance Festival of NJ, Alice Tully Hall and Avery Fisher Hall in Lincoln Center and a trip to perform in London during the 2012 Olympics.
Each Spring, the company performs a half hour story ballet for young audiences. These have included Peter and the Wolf, and original stories The Ice Queen and Fairy Wings. Our large studio converts to a performance space for these ballets, we have taken these to pre-schools and elementary schools, and have performed these on area stages.

Students in our Intermediate 3 through Advanced levels may audition for the company. Auditions are usually held in the Spring after the recital. Dance for Joy faculty members judge the auditions. Company members must perform in the Nutcracker for Kids, or must assist in the production. A parent committee is in charge of fundraising for the company and dancers must commit to all fundraising events. Company rehearsals are held on Saturdays, after the company class. The company currently runs with four captains who each have a team; this allows for team bonding in smaller groups as well as the full company activities.
The Youth Dance Festival of NJ has provided an opportunity for solo performances, and dancers may elect to work on a solo. This allows dancers the opportunity to work individually with faculty and guest coaches on a variation. Our soloists have shown very well in this forum, and each year we also enter at least two ensemble pieces. While the festival has a competition aspect, we are not a competition school so we attend for the performance opportunity. That does not mean we aren't excited when we bring home trophies though!
In addition to special performance opportunities, the company performs at least one piece in the annual Dance for Joy recital.
